I thought it was about time I reintroduced myself!

I’m Emma Marsh, Director & Clinical Lead Physiotherapist here at Fellside Physiotherapy.

I’m a Chartered Physiotherapist and Sports Massage Therapist, registered with the HCPC, and I’ve spent over 18 years working in healthcare both here in the UK and overseas.

My passion lies in helping people recover from sports injuries, musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, and polytrauma — supporting them to get back to doing what they love.

Over the years I’ve worked across the NHS, private practice, charity sector and sporting events, and I’m proud to be the Therapy Clinical Lead for Manx Roadracing Medical Services at the Isle of Man TT 🏍️.

I love staying up to date through teaching, mentoring and attending courses — it’s so important to me that every assessment and treatment I deliver is evidence-based, effective and tailored to each individual.

Outside the clinic, I’m happiest outdoors — swimming or paddleboarding on the lakes, or exploring the fells with my husband and our two dogs 🐾.

🐾 Haggis Update! 🐶

I’ve had lots of lovely messages asking “Where’s Haggis?” and “When will he be back?” – so here’s a little update!

He’s doing brilliantly and absolutely loving life. At the moment, we’ve taken a little step back from his therapy dog training – he’s still young, full of beans, and bursting with energy (as anyone who’s met him can confirm! 😄).

Right now, we’re channelling that energy into other things – long walks, zoomies, and fun training sessions that keep him busy and happy.

We’re hopeful that, as he matures, he’ll settle a bit more and be ready to continue on his therapy dog journey. But for now, he’s living his best life 🐕‍🦺❤️

Thanks to everyone who’s been asking – he sends tail wags and kisses! 🐾

So a little update for you, I’m home after an amazing IOM TT working for MRMS as the therapy team lead. The team smashed it as always so we headed up the podium for a great photo by the incredible @jw_drp ☺️

Achilles tendonitis is a common overuse injury that can come on suddenly and in the worst case scenario, can result in a rupture of the achilles tendon.⁠

❓ What causes it?❓⁠
⁠
Achilles tendon fibres weaken and fray from repeated stress. In turn the tendon tries to heal itself which can lead to the formation of troublesome lumps or nodules. Ow!⁠

It accounts for 6-17% of all running injuries and a huge 50% of injuries in elite athletes. It’s no joke!⁠

Don’t be embarrassed, loads of us struggle to put away this life-giving liquid! 🙈⁠

Forgetting to eat is pretty impossible (tummy rumbles and delicious food, right?) but forgetting to drink water is EASY. Why? There are lots of alternatives that tempt us away from nature’s nectar - fizzy drinks and caffeinated tea and coffee for starters. These drinks, tasty as they might be, are more likely to dehydrate us that make us feel good. Keep them as a treat!⁠

HOW TO KNOW YOU’RE DEHYDRATED:⁠
⁠
❗You’ll feel tired and lethargic with a loss of focus⁠
❗You’ll experience nasty headaches and dizziness⁠
❗Your skin will look crepey and dry⁠
❗You may suffer from urinary tract infections, kidney stones and constipation.⁠
❗Your urine will be dark and emit a strong smell.⁠
⁠
HOW MUCH WATER WILL QUENCH YOUR THIRST?⁠

🚰 6-8 glasses a day is ideal - too much water can be dangerous so don’t get carried away.⁠

🚰 To run smoothly your body requires regular topping up with water, just like your car! So, enjoy sips of water throughout the day and try not to wait until you’re gasping.⁠

🌍 Remember to stick to good old tap water when you can. Single use plastic is bad for us and bad for nature: a single bottle can take 500 years to decompose! Buy a reusable bottle to transport your crystal clear tap water and if you’re at home, fill your glass half a dozen times and your body will thank you!⁠
